Day 8 Mission Royale, Doug's home & Little Mexico Steakhouse
3/15 - Day 8 Mission Royale, Doug's home & Little Mexico Steakhouse
Sunday started in Casa Grande at Mission Royale golf course. The weather was perfect and the golf course is a fun, not too difficult layout. The conditioning of the golf course was OK except for the greens. THEY were horrible! I hope they are the worst I play on this whole trip (or ever again!), because it's hard to imagine worse! Evidently when they overseeded with rye grass for the winter, the ground froze and the winter grass didn't take or died. So the surface it was either bare spots or clumps, bumpy as hell! I don't know how, but (literally) slamming the ball into the hole worked for me and I shot a pretty good score.
I played with Jerry & Betty, a couple who live in the development and summer in Wisconsin. Nice folks! Jerry could play a little and I hope Betty was just having a tough day. As golfers, don't we all!
After golf it was about an hour drive to Tucson and I was too early to check in at my motel. Doug Mattoon invited me out to he and Kathy's place in Sahuarita (just NE of Green Valley) for margaritas. I drove down there and met his sister Robin, her husband Scott, Doug's daughter and some of her friends. Kathy & Doug have a nice place in a nice development with a swimming pool & hot tub in the back. Doug will be spending a lot more time down there now and we will probably see very little of him in Clarkston from now on.
After the refreshing beverage I returned to Tucson and checked into my room. I drove back to Sahuarita to have dinner with the whole Mattoon bunch at a place called "Little Mexico Steakhouse". It was a shorter drive as the restaurant is quite a bit northwest of where their subdivision is located. The bar was packed when we went it (employees were drafting players for their Fantasy Baseball League). The bar stools have a horse's ass (including tale) on the back of them. Never seen that before, clever! We ate in the dining area as it was the only place they could set up a table big enough for all of us. The food was really good. I had a three enchilada plate where all of them were different and quite tasty. It was a good day and the fewest miles I have driven so far.
