August 5th,  Day 61 - Mint Valley GC, Longview, WA                                                                                                                          Drove 380 miles The LAST DAY of this golf trip began in Kelso, WA. Kelso and Longview are separated by the Cowlitz River and though Longview is much bigger, Kelso is the county seat of Cowlitz County. The Mint Valley Golf Club is in northwest Longview and very close to the Longview Country Club where Margaret ...

August 4th,  Day 60 - Bandon Crossings, Bandon, OR                                                                                                                         Drove 318 miles It was a short drive up the coast to Bandon from Port Orford. Bandon is the home of the famous Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and Margaret & I played there, way back in 2007 when walking the golf course was easier and prices were not as steep there as they are now. You can't take a golf cart at an...

August 3rd  Day 59 - NO GOLF, a travel only day!                                                                                                                      Drove 382 miles We traveled up US 101 to Port Orford, OR and spent the night. 101 is a scenic highway if you like trees. Until you get to the small cities on the Pacific Ocean, that's about all you're going to see. I had never been on this part of 101 and I'm glad we came this way. Tomorrow we have a shortish drive up to Bandon, OR for a round of golf and then onto Longview, WA. W...

August 2nd,  Day 58 - Foxtail GC South course & North course, Rohnert Park, CA                                                                   Drove 9 miles (actually Margaret drove 3 of them!) Margaret & I drove the lengthy 1.5 mile trip to the golf course and set out to play the South course at Foxtail, which I had booked online. This is a good golf course in poor condition. I don't know if it was because of the sprinkler system, not enough sunlight, whatever, the turf was bad, particularly on the front nine. The back nine was much better, but by then my impression of the golf course had been formed. The south course was busy, despite its condition and we were paired with a couple of Korean ladies and you could tell ...

August 1st  Day 57 - NO GOLF, a travel only day!                                                                                                                      Drove 468 miles  We got up early and drove to Arlene & Mike's for breakfast (I DON'T eat breakfast, but keep the coffee coming!), then hit the road heading for Rohnert Park, which is just north of Santa Rosa, CA. Lots of truck traffic heading north on this Sunday, but all in all fairly uneventful. We are staying in a brand new hotel (IT WAS NICE!) and tomorrow we will meet Rick (from C...

July 31th Day 56 - Hesperia Golf & CC, Hesperia, CA                                                                                                               Drove 155 miles This was the STRANGEST day of the whole trip. What should've been a wonderful day became weird, a pain in the ass and ultimately just bad. I'll start with the golf.  If I didn't KNOW that the Hesperia Golf & CC had been a PGA tour stop from 1957 to 1961, I never would have believed it after coming here. Gene Littler holds the course record from the Championship tees (62) and Billy ...
