July 20th Day 45 - Indian Hills Golf Resort, Fairfield Bay, AR Drove 363 miles
I did not know how far off the beaten path this golf course was. If I had known, I would've chosen a different Arkansas golf course. I wish I had because I didn't particularly care for this course anyway. The golf course sits at the end of a REALLY winding road, kind of like driving around the east side of Hayden Lake (if you've ever done that)!. There were quite a few people there and I suppose the elevation and cool breezes off the water make for an attractive vacation area, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.
The course is very steep and the greens are slow and grainy. They probably have to be a little slow or many of would not hold a golf ball, because they too (the greens) are fairly steep. I got to play with a couple of guys (Ron & Dan) on the front. Dan is a pretty good player, but Ron (who has lived and played at this golf course for YEARS) has had a stroke and never regained his physical abilities. Dan is a VERY good friend to help Ron out, but after 7 holes Ron gave it up for the day and Dan left after the front 9.
Ron was helpful to me telling me where to hit my tee shots which is probably why I scored better on the front side 43 / 48, and that was with 40 putts. I caught up with Jim & Brenda around the 13th hole, but they had never played the golf course before either, so we just slogged along as best we could.
I played the white tees at 5653 yards with a rating of 68.8 and a slope of 118, but the hilliness of the golf course made the course play longer. A lot of downhill tee shots and uphill approach shots. The longest tees are 6226 and the shortest 4638, although there are unrated kids tees at 3888. The green fee with cart was a quite reasonable $ 38.75 for a senior, but this is not a course I can recommend.
After golf I headed north through the Ozark Mountains, past the tourist mecca of Brando and up to Jefferson City to spend the night. It must've been kind of a blah day altogether, because I don't recall a thing about dinner or the motel.
