July 21th Day 46 - Eldon  Golf Club, Eldon, MO                                                                                                                       Drove 198 miles

Eldon is a small town 30 minutes SW of Jefferson City and 15 minutes north of The Lake of the Ozarks. The population is just under 5,000 so I guess it would be close to Omak in size. I picked this golf course through Golf Advisor and once again, the golf course was as good as the ratings were for it.  This course is open to the public, but privately (member?) owned, and it is well maintained. They were installing some new sprinkler lines on one hole the day I played. 

Oddly enough, when I got on the practice green before I teed off, the greens were SO fast I wondered how well I would adjust having played slow green yesterday. I only needed 33 putts to get around so I adjusted  quite well. 

The golf course has some definite slope to it, but not as severe as some others I have played on this trip. The course was in good condition and I made a note on the scorecard about "great seats" in the Club Car rental I used. The rough is thick and the ball settled down in it so shots off the fairway took some looking for at times. I hit a ball in a water hazard on #2, but other than that I didn't lose any balls as I figured out EARLY I needed to keep an eye on them.

I paid $ 38.44 to play the course with a cart, a good bargain for a nice golf experience. I played white tees at 5582 yards with a rating of 67.1 and a slope of 1128 on this par 72 golf course. I shot an 89, so I'm glad I didn't play the next longer tees (6092) although I THINK I could handle them after playing the course once. The "tips" (longest tees for you non-golfers!) are 6434 with a slope of 124 and a 70.4 rating and the shortest tees are 4735 (66.6 / 110 slope) for the ladies. I'm pretty sure Margaret would like this course.

After golf I drove to Kansas City and my motel was in the northern end of the Kansas side, which is smaller and about 1/3 the population of the Missouri side. I had been told I needed to try Kansas Joes BBQ and I did since there was one not far from the motel (also ONE of the reasons I booked it!). It was OK, but really nothing special in my opinion. I am probably forever spoiled by Letha's in Mississippi.
