July 29th Day 54 - Boulder City, GC, Boulder City, NV                                                                                                              Drove 8 miles

That's right, I only drove 8 miles this day, (another there and back again day) and I ate an early dinner at Totos Restaurant in Boulder City on the way back from the golf course. Great fajitas & Margaritas!

First off, if you are unfamiliar with Boulder City, NV, it lies between Boulder Dam and Henderson / Las Vegas. It's a NICE small town with NO legal gambling within its city limits, one of only two cities in Nevada like that. Population is about 15,000, has a GREAT old downtown area and a fair selection of shops and restaurants. I had driven through it before, but after spending a little time there, I really like the place. It doesn't feel like a tourist trap and the only traffic I noticed is on the main highway through town. It is hot there in the summer, but it has a couple of golf courses, one being this very good muni which I recommend giving a try for you golfers out there. I will likely play it again someday with Margaret, probably on the way to or from Arizona. 

It feels like you gain a quite a bit of elevation as you drive to the city, but really it's about the same (elevation) as North Las Vegas and Henderson. It is probably a nice place to live and is listed as the 2nd safest city in Nevada, for what that's worth. I felt like I could live there.

The golf course is just a few blocks west of the downtown area. My green fees with cart were $ 50 and other than the greens being slow, I have no complaints. Actually, at this time of year I expect them to be slow because if you cut the grass too short in the heat you can kill the greens, and nobody wants' that. My other notes on the course read great sand and "well placed" water hazards. Water hazards don't need to be large to find them, they just need to be where you have to think about them when planning a golf shot. I only found one of them this day!

There are three sets of tees, blue at 6606 yards, rating 70.7/slope 123, white at 6134 yards, rating 68.7 / slope 121 (these were my choice) and reds at 5453 yards, rating 71.2 / slope 119 (ladie's slope & rating!) . Yardage and slope wise it's very similar to my home course. There are gentle elevation changes on this course, but mostly it's pretty flat. It has an abundance of trees and I hit a few of them during my round, because after all, that's what they're there for!

I started off by myself and caught up with father son Don & Donny about the 4th hole. I played with them for the rest of the front nine. Don is TRYING to teach Donny how to play, but Donny is like most young guys, he just wants to swing hard and watch the ball fly. They stopped at the turn for lunch and I kept going.

I was behind a group I knew wasn't going to let me through, and a twosome caught me on #11 so I waited for them and we played the rest of the round together. They are local guys and of ALL the people I played golf with on this whole journey, these two were the best pair of golfers I played with. I can't imagine either of them was higher than a 7 handicap and probably close to 4 or 5 handicappers. I'm an 18 or thereabouts, so they were MUCH better players than I am. I didn't play well, but I was consistent shooting 48 on the both the front and back nines.

I enjoyed their company and the golf course. Tomorrow I'm heading to Apple Valley, California and two days from now Margaret will join me. Looking forward to that, for sure!
